From Storage Closet to Wine Cellar/Bar

Wall Sconce // Hardware: Latch/Knobs/Bin Pull // Lower Cabinets // Wine Fridge // Zellige Tile // Brick Flooring // Stems // Countertop // Paint (see below)
Well guys…after much time and lots of insecurity about each decision we have a finished wine cellar/bar area (final pic at the bottom). This was a project where I really got to gut the entire space and put it all back together. I just love how it came together. All the links above are mostly to exact product I purchased. Some are to the local vendors where I purchased the product from because they didn’t have the product linked.
Back Story: The back story is that this used to be a closet that had a door going into our laundry room. It was a great place to store all the large Costco purchases we had and really ended up being a disorganized dumping ground for all the things I just didn’t know what to do with. We decided to close off the original door and open the wall on the opposite side that would enter into our living room. What was so nice about starting from scratch was that once we ordered the door we just cut the opening to fit them exactly.
Step One and Two: The doors and floors were the first steps because we knew we would have to pause and we wanted to get the dusty part mostly done and then close off the space until we could continue. The main goal for the doors was for them to have glass already in and for that glass to be a minimum or 3/4 of the size of the doors. We chose Old Chicago brick flooring really as a budget decision since we already had them, but I could not be happier with the character they added.
Cabinets: We ordered our cabinets from RTA Wholesaler. I wanted an inset door and for them to be on the easier side for Nick and I to install ourselves. Thats exactly what we did. They were very easy to build and actually pretty decent to install. This company will build out exactly what you need for your build out based on the measurements of the space you send them. Our space is about a 4.5ft by 6.5ft room. So to add storage but not kill the walking room we used upper cabinets as our lowers. The only have about a 12 inch depth versus the typical 24 inches. We added the cabinet above the fridge knowing we would eventually build out the shelving and wanted it all built in. Once the lowers cabinets were complete we hired a master carpenter to complete the work. I drew out the plan and walked him through each part. He did such an amazing job and we couldn’t be happier.
Paint color: We did a 50/50 mix of Sherwin Williams Pewter Green and Ripe Olive in a matte finish.
Countertop: Our countertop is called Mystery White Marble. My shelf is about 14 inches tall and the self is about 3.5 inches in depth. I have it linked above but wanted you to know that I was able to pick this up at a remnant yard here locally. I knew I didn’t need much and I was actually difficult to find a vendor willing to install under 25sqft. Thats when you shop small and shop local.
Tile: Our tile is from Zia Tile. These are hand made Zellige tiles and I chose the Pure White 4×4 square. We laid these one on top of the other and spaced them by hand without using spacers. We pretty much needed almost exactly 17 tiles across which made this go extremely quickly. For grout we used unsanded grout in an eggshell color which basically looks white.
Lights are inked above and I found them on Etsy. There are several shops that make these. Little tidbit…make sure you update your Etsy account and remove past addresses. These lights were delivered to our first home from like 10 years ago and I had to go knocking on their door at like 9pm only to find out that they had been delivered to the correct house number but wrong street. We found them, we hung them, but it was an ordeal. Moral here is I couldn’t love them more and worth chasing them down all over town. 🙂

There are a few more details not quite up yet that I will share as they come. Head over to my Instagram (@greyandgracedesign) to see more close ups. Thanks for being here. As always, let me know if you have questions.
